The Paopu Fruit

The paopu fruit is a common fruit that grows from trees in Destiny Islands. In Kingdom Hearts, this tropical fruit was first introduced in the beginning of the game when Riku tossed one over to Sora.

Sora: A paopu fruit...
Riku: If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what. C'mon, I know you want to try it.

The following day, Riku and Sora agreed for a race and then Riku states that the winner will have the opportunity to share one with Kairi. At first Sora was dumbstruck but continued on with the race. Later that day, when Sora was looking for mushrooms for their trip, he enters the Secret Cave alone and finds a drawing of Kairi and himself and remembers that they both drew it way back. Sora then picks up a rock and draws an extented arm handing a paopu fruit to Kairi. This shows Sora's desire and wish to share the fruit with his admired one.

By the ending of Kingdom Hearts when Kairi was back in Destiny Islands, she goes into the Secret Cave and finds Sora's addition to their drawings. Tears of happiness falls from her eyes, realizing that it was Sora's drawing and she too draws an arm handing a paopu fruit to Sora. Sora eventually saw the drawing that Kairi made, when he went back to the cave in the ending of Kingdom Hearts II. He was surprised at first, but was very happy. This drawing shows how much Sora and Kairi care for one another and that they want to be part of each others lives for the years to come, perhaps even share an actual paopu fruit one day.
